Bisabolol
Structure and Source
Bisabolol (C??H??O) is a non-toxic sesquiterpene alcohol found in natural essential oils. The human body cannot synthesize it, so it is mainly obtained through plant extraction and microbial fermentation.
Biological Activity
Bisabolol is a colorless to straw yellow viscous liquid that is soluble in lower alcohols (ethanol, isopropanol), fatty alcohols, glycerol esters, and vinegar, but almost insoluble in water and glycerol. It has a slight inherent odor, a density of 0.922~0.928, a refractive index of 1.492~1.498, and a content of ≥ 96%. It has anticancer activity, as α-bisabolol induces cell cycle arrest, mitochondrial death, and inhibits the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway in A549 NSCLC cells. Research findings show that α-bisabolol has good skin compatibility, with anti-inflammatory, whitening, and anti-ultraviolet effects.
